Chiropractic is the largest natural method of health-care in the world and is based on the principle that the body has the inherent ability to heal without the use of drugs or surgery. It focuses on treating the causes of physical problems, rather than just the symptoms. From the Chiropractic perspective, a poorly functioning spinal column is the cause of many different ailments. Any type of situation, whether it be a traumatic injury, wear and tear over many years, or any other stress, can cause the nervous system to stop working at its ultimate capacity. That can cause pain or discomfort and can affect how the organs of your body function.

The body is a huge proprioceptive machine. Proprioception is our body's awareness of space and time. Our nervous system interacts with our external and internal environments. Lack of movement in the spine interferes with the natural joint proprioceptive mechanisms which can cause pain and disease because the brain is unaware of what is truly happening. By removing these block at the spinal level the body can them communicate with itself to heal.

Treatment in a Chiropractic office consists of gently adjusting or manipulating the spine, as well as exercise recommendations, physical therapy, and rehabilitative activities. A problem in the spine can adversely affect the spinal nerves as they come off the spinal cord. One common problem is a subluxation or misalignment of the spine. Subluxations can lead to many disorders including low back and neck pain, headache, shoulder pain, numbness of the extremities, sciatica, and many other problems. These conditions result from an irritation or "pinching" of the nerves as they exit the spine and go to other parts of the body.

Chiropractic also deals with other spinal problems such as intervertebral disc conditions, spondylosis, sprains and strains and non-spinal problems such as ankle, knee, elbow and shoulder problems caused by falls, sports and work injuries or other disorders.

Dr. Ken Best, D.C. has mastered several different types of chiropractic treatments: Applied Kinesiology, activator, diversified, Zone Therapy, Sacro-Occipital Technique, Thompson Technique, Gonstead and non-force adjusting. Dr. Best uses primarily AK with diversified and non-force adjusting, but adapts the use of these various techniques depending on your body's needs.
